Invisible Face
(This song was written after I finished reading "No Logo" by Namoi Klein, a great book about the horrific realities of sweatshop labour.)
p3
5 am, not enough time to watch the sunrise
I’m off to the same old place,
Just an invisible face with a pair of hands
8 pm, and I’ve missed the sunset again
Don’t even think they know my name
To them we’re all the same, just a pair of hands
I had dreams just like you
My wish for a better life I thought would come true
Now my only wish is to someday be
Free from this hell and free to dream
They lock the doors behind us, can’t even see the light of day
I might as well be a prisoner in this place,
Just a pair of hands and an invisible face
So what’s a few extra hours when they’ve targets to make,
They’re stealing my time, and I’ve no escape
I’ve no other choice but this sweatshop hell
They’ve made me an invisible face, with a story to tell
I had dreams just like you
My wish for a better life I thought would come true
Now my only wish is to someday be
Free from this hell and free to dream
So when you drive you’re fancy cars do you think of me,
Cause after all I’m the one who’s made all your money
Does the image of me rotting here haunt your sleep
Or are you living your dreams while you forget about me
I had dreams just like you
My wish for a better life I thought would come true
Now my only wish is to someday be
Free from this hell and free to dream
